Bay Ridge United Methodist Church
Brooklyn, New York
Conservation Master Plan

The Bay Ridge United Methodist Church was designed by the prolific church architect, George W. Kramer, in 1899 of green serpentine stone with brownstone detailing.  The stone, which is extremely soft and not well suited for the Northeast climate, is in an advanced stage of deterioration and the roof is exhibiting serious failures.  The ongoing deterioration is affecting all aspects of the building - the aesthetic aspects of its character defining features including the stone cladding and clock tower, its structural integrity and its life safety.

Easton Architects prepared a Conservation Master Plan for the church.  The project has received a grant from the NY Landmarks Conservancy Sacred Sites program and from the National Trust for Historic Preservation Services Fund.  To date, stabilization of the clock tower, including structural mesh netting, has been installed.

The Church is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places.
